The Sivil Düşün CAM Platform, home to more than 200 films created in support of human rights, will meet audiences in Ankara on 6 August with its first-ever open-air film screening. Held at Kült Teras with the participation of H.E. Ambassador Aivo Orav, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye, the event will feature two CAM films that cannot be watched anywhere else: Ancient Longoz İğneada and Everything Is Fine.
Directed by Uğur Cuya, Ancient Longoz İğneada looks at the İğneada Longoz Forests through the eyes of the people who call the region home. Beekeepers, fishers, foresters, and local guides take centre stage, sharing their experiences and reflecting on the potential impact of the proposed nuclear power plant on both the environment and their way of life. Their testimonies draw strength from their deep connection with the forest.
Directed by Muhammet Beyazdağ, Everything Is Fine follows the everyday life of 12-year-old Aleyna. Screened at more than fifty film festivals around the world and recipient of fifteen awards, the film focuses on the lives of girls growing up in rural and resource limited regions of Türkiye. Through Aleyna’s story, it sheds light on girls’ right to education.
The open air screening will be followed by a reception, offering participants an opportunity to get to know one another and discuss how films that defend rights can contribute to social change. And, of course, no open air cinema experience would be complete without popcorn and lemonade, which will be waiting for film lovers throughout the evening.
Everyone interested in discovering CAM films, reflecting on them together, and enjoying a summer evening in Ankara is invited to Kült Teras at Esat Hal on 6 August.
The film screening and the reception are free of charge, but seating is limited.
